It's a boy!

August 22, 2008: 20 week ultrasound ... we were told we were having a boy.  Now, all along I had assumed as much & I think Hubs had too. There's always boys born in the Hubs' family- always.  Personally, I hadn't had much experience with infant boys, so to be honest, I was a little unsure of how it would go.  Sure, I would learn to watch for the spray when changing his diapers & sure I would learn to like the color blue, as that is what the majority of baby boy things are. But I was not prepared for this...

Just two short days ago I realized just how much of a boy, my little baby is.  My most adorable, precious, baby boy is just that- a boy.  A boy who sometimes, just sometimes does NOT smell like Aveeno baby soap & lotion, but rather, smelly, sweaty feet.

SMELLY, SWEATY FEET!

He doesn't even really wear shoes... or socks at the time. And yet, I smell sweaty feet on my little man.

I guess I'd better just get ready for sweaty gym socks, dirty knees, stinky sports uniforms...  It's in my future, I can see it now.  Wish me luck.

Where have you been?

It's been a long two weeks or so... I've been a little missing in action, I know.  Want some reasons?

We moved! Wa-hoo! That's strike one for the internet & my computer usage.

I have been lending a friend my computer ... a friend of ours has a new job in the city & his work computer has not come in yet so he needs a laptop until then. Strike two.

Hmm... strike three?  Well, there's... no that's not anything. And oh, um...  Nope, guess not.

okay, okay, so maybe the baseball analogy was not the best one to use, but regardless, now you know where I've been!  Now, if you can just cut me some slack til Thursday  or so, when our internet gets hooked up in the new house, I'd be forever grateful!

Black, please!

All I've wanted recently is some new cloth diapers... and I've been hankering (really? where'd that word even come from) for a black GADBABY DIAPER! Ahhh!! And what do you know- tonight @laurensnellings posted a tweet about a giveaway!

Now this is the first time I've linked to someone else's blog, so forgive me if it's incorrect.

I am supposed to tell you to check out this blog review right here (Lauren's blog) and enter the contest, but secretly, I don't want you to, because I WANT TO WIN!!!

I'll be a good sport about it though and tell you to also check this (the GADbaby blog!) out!

Now, for you to be a good sport about it, don't enter and keep your fingers crossed that I win!

Short week = Short fuse

Ahh, Mondays... the day that B catches up on rest from the weekend, I catch up on laundry and cleaning... B usually takes a long nap, thus ensuring that I get a few moments to myself.

What? What was that you said? Today's not Monday? Well... are you sure? Of course you're sure! Oh no... you mean... but how... It's TUESDAY!? Oh crap.

We spent our holiday weekend in St. Louis, visiting family of mine- my aunt, uncle, cousin & his wife, and their 2 children.  It was a good time- it's always nice to see them.  It's great to catch up with cousin's wife, afterall, she is the one who got me into cloth diapering.  She is generally my go to lady for questions, although now with twitter I can usually get a faster answer from one of my tweeps.  So, it was a fun weekend.  We didn't have to bring much., which is always helpful.  We stayed at my aunt & uncle's house and since they have multiple grandchildren, they are equipped with highchairs, toys & a crib. Unfortunately for us, B didn't like their crib. Or the room. Or something about sleeping there.  So after a 2.5 hour 'dance' party that B and I had on Saturday - very early- he slept with us.  And then slept with us on Saturday. And then Sunday.  Enter a long car ride home on Monday and some spur of the moment shopping and dinner with friends before his bedtime and then we're back home!

How do you think B slept last night?

Great, you say? Well... you couldn't be MORE wrong.  Long story short, into our bed again... ugh.  While I have no issues with those who cosleep- sometimes I love a conap!- I do take issue with my child who has slept in his crib all but one night when he was very sick, since he was 2 months old, suddenly thinking he can only sleep with us.

I finally got him down for a nap and am hoping it lasts for 2 hours or so. Praying in fact.  Please pray with me... or make that for me.

In addition to B's sleep predicament, we have managed to miss the bus twice today (oh right, story time was today, since it was Tuesday... and oh yeah, that was our stop that we just flew past), we forgot to pay our rent (although our landlord was very kind about it and was not upset in any way), I realized we had 5 (yep, 5!) jars of opened, unfinished baby food in the fridge from last week, and we have plans to be gone again this weekend (BIG game!).  Also, a friend and I had planned to go to Michigan Ave and see Oprah's kickoff party this afternoon, but unfortunately it seems as though B's habit forming nap must take precedence- oh the things a mother misses out on!  Are you sure it's not Monday?

In all of my list making and planning for what must be done in these 3 short days, I've also come to the realization that our diaper stash is too small.  It's never been large, but lately I've been selling and not replenishing effectively.  I must rectify this situation immediately, but I'll save more of those details for another post...

For now, I'm just going to count down the minutes until Hubs gets home and I can have a drink (oh wait, alcohol spiked breastmilk might get B to sleep, but it's probably not the way to win the best mom of the year award, right?)

The Evolution of an 8 Month Old

Today my son is 8 months old.  I know 8 months is no big to some people, but to me, it's crazy! I can't believe that just 8 short (and yet very long) months ago B was born.

8 months ago he was just 6 pounds, 4 ounces... under 6 pounds when we brought him home. He was 19 inches long with darkish brown hair.  He obviously didn't do much, similar to most newborns. He was and still is amazing... I was so in love with this little man who looked so similar to his daddy.  After 8 quick hours of induced labor he was in my arms and our whole world was changed. We were brand new parents who didn't really have a clue, but we knew we were about to embark on a great adventure.

Today, at 8 months he is a redhead... he is jabbering, cruising around on furniture, standing (with help, of course), jumping up and down (with help, of course), laughing, eating solid food (although he has NO teeth as of yet) He eats Cheerios like they're going out of style... He smiles and it melts my heart. Not surprisingly, I am still so in love with this little man who looks even more like his daddy.  Our world changes every week or so when he learns something new and we learn it through his eyes... We are in the midst of this adventure every day and we couldn't enjoy it more.

These are a few of my favorite things...

Just a few thoughts for today (in NO particular order):

I love...

1.  Whole Foods 2 Bite Chocolate Chip Cookies... and 2 Bite Brownies. Yum! So much deliciousness crammed into these tiny little morsels... Oh so good! Now, if only I could stop at 2 bites.

2.  Twitter. I love it. I love twittering with all the other mommy twitterers!  I love learning all sorts of random things from fellow Twitterers. For example, today I learned that Dairy Queen has a new blizzard- oreos & cookie dough! Fabulous!

(...and no, I don't only love things that relate to food...)

3. My iPhone. (see- no food!) The iPhone has this great map feature which picks up on transit time and tells you exactly which bus stop to be at, what time to be there- the whole 9 yards. Fantastic.  Of course, it also has many other fabulous applications (you know, like the commercial- "it has an app for that"), but the map is super in the city.

4. People Magazine.  I consider all celebrity gossip to be 'alleged' until People confirms it. I love Thursday mail- my weekly issue arrives at my house and all is wonderful.

5.  Uggs.  Call me circa 2002 if you want, but I love me some Uggs.  Barefoot in my furry boots tramping through the snow- nothing beats that! I love them so much I am very seriously considering buying B Man a pair for winter.

6.  Cookie Lee jewelry (yes, this is a teeny tiny plug for my home business). Each piece is between $14-48.  There's something for every single person and every single occasion.  I LOVE it! Looking down right now- I'm in love with the Cobblestone bracelet on my right arm and the Diamond Cut Nugget bracelets on my left.  I no longer feel completely dressed without some CL bling on! (Feel free to check it out right here! )

7. Bags. All bags, all shapes, all sizes.  Handbags, tote bags, everything! I am addicted. I always want to buy a new one...

8.  Cloth diapers. Another addiction... fluffy, cute softness for Baby B's bum.  I just recently bought some Blueberry pockets and they are SO soft. Who knew that diapers could cause so much joy!

9.  Fall weather... It's been in the 60s all last week and now in the 70s. I love the crispy cool football on Friday nights kind of Fall weather.  I am so thrilled to be (hopefully, crossing our fingers) moving into a new house, where we can open the windows up and enjoy the fabulous weather!

.... 9 seems like a good number to quit on. Of course, this list is void of my family members... I adore my family, but this list is meant to be somewhat more frivolous than my family.

Now, leave me alone so I can go eat some brownies, the 2 bite kind!
