A whole lotta nothing...

Just a myriad of random knowledge about our weekend:

B is still sickly. Ugh. Turns out sick two year old, especially after a week and a half, is not fun. Not one bit.

I went to Sam's Club for, something like the second time ever in my life, today. With the Hubs. And my mother in law. And it was awesome. We got, like 25 pounds of m&ms today. Who doesn't need 25 pounds of m&ms?  And also 4 bottles of wine.

Parenthood rocks. I mean, the show (not that I don't love parenthood). It rocks. And I love Minka Kelly, even if she cheated on Jason Street with Tim Riggins (any idea what show that's from?) and now helped Crosby cheat on Jasmine. I still love her.

My mom was here this weekend, which resulted in a little shopping. Yay! Look at these lovelies:
  (I love me some scarves)

The month is almost over and I haven't picked out anything for my 30 for 30. I'm almost positive I'm already failing this challenge, before it's begun.

I applied for an additional freelance writing job. It could be amazing so fingers crossed that I get it.

Cookies 101

Ingredients pre-measured into smaller bowls makes it easier for those little hands....

Stirring with both hands is more sufficient....
Who doesn't love Valentine's cookies 5 days later?

They're pretty in their own way :)

One really cute kid ... and chef. Love him.

Super Game ... Super Bowl

As much as I hate to say it ...

Go Packers!

The Bears played a crappy game & the Packers didn't, so now they're in the Super Bowl.  Today, we root for the Packers. Today, the Packers better win.

What Makes Me Happy Today

My mom is here, visiting for 5 days!

B has taken to my mom like white on rice. Seriously, I was a little worried, cause he doesn't get to see her very often... but he's running all over the place, yelling "GramGuh! GramGuh!" (cause that's Grandma in B speak)

There was an amazing sale at the Coach outlet today. My mom happened to mention that she'd thought about stopping at the outlet in Iowa on her way here, but she didn't do it.  I then informed her that there was one about 5 minutes from my house, so we thought we better go.  We didn't even know there was a sale! Oh man, were we in for a surprise! Happy Mother's Day to us (thanks Mama)! I got this pretty little diddy, & a cute handbag... My mom got um... multiple handbags. We did good.

Mr. Tucker puppy turned 2 today & I got him a toy that seems relatively indestructible.  We'll see how long it really lasts though.

and last but not least, it's the weekend, which means Mike doesn't have to go to work for the next two days!

...life is good...

(& my mom took this picture of us tonight)

I scream, You scream

Yesterday we took B for his very first ice cream treat! He was not a huge fan of the vanilla with sprinkles, but he did end up enjoying some of Mike's chocolate shake!

but, in the end, he really just wanted to eat his crackers. Silly boy, someday he'll beg for ice cream!

mistakes & moving on.

I am a real person.  I make mistakes.  I am not perfect.  Sometimes I say things that I shouldn't.  Sometimes I do things that I shouldn't.  I am a real person.  Sometimes I'm self-conscious.  Sometimes I'm cocky.  Sometimes I'm quiet. Sometimes I'm loud. Sometimes I'm sad. Sometimes I'm happy.  Most of the time I'm happy.

I'm an adult, as are most of you who are reading this.  I'm an adult, but I still make mistakes. And as an adult, I try to own up to my mistakes & remedy the situation.  This weekend I did something stupid.  Apparently, obnoxiously stupid.  All I know is that I drank way too much alcohol & I don't remember, but I know that I said some things that I shouldn't have.  That's the thing with alcohol - if you choose to drink too much, you can do & say things you shouldn't.  I generally don't drink anymore- sure, maybe a glass of wine or a beer here or there, but 99% of the time, I don't even think of it.  It's just not a big part of my life anymore.  Sure, while I was pregnant & in social situations, I couldn't believe how bored I was without drinking, but since then, I just haven't cared much about it.  I'm not bored anymore. Now I'm busy.   Now I'm surprised if I have time to finish that beer with dinner, if I've chosen to drink it.

Anyway, I heard some incredibly traumatic news about someone I wasn't close with, but someone I knew & I respected on Saturday morning.  It's one of those things that you think will never happen to anyone you know in real life- it's only on tv, right? Wrong. It happened & it happened not that far from where I live & it happened to someone I knew.

These things are a bad, bad combination for me.  Hearing about an awful thing that happened & then being given an opportunity to go & drink is something that has happened before & it's resulted in a bad night.  This weekend it resulted in a bad night again.  Do you watch Grey's Anatomy? Do you remember when Meredith used to say she was dark & twisty? Well, I get it.  I am dark & twisty... & while it might sound funny, it's not.  Alcohol definitely drives me to be dark & twisty.

I strive to be a compassionate person.  I strive to be a good person.  I wasn't always the nicest person, but I try to be nice.  But everyday is a new day & everyday something can stand in your way & mine & you may not always do something you're proud of.  That's part of life.  You screw up, you apologize & try to make it right & you move on & hope you learned... right?  I sure hope so.  I screwed up, I apologized, I'd like to move on & learn from it.

Easier said than done.

my list of things to do today.

the weekend is fast approaching, which for me brings a fun get together with friends, a visit from the in-laws, a rockin new outfit to wear, & plenty more.  all of this requires a day of preparation... well most of this anyway. there's not much to prepare for the in-laws, short of cleaning the bathrooms (which would be done regardless) & washing the sheets that tucker lays on all the time.  I guess the outfit is already ready, but I do need to get a jacket for it, since mother nature decided to laugh in our faces & take away the 80 degree sun & replace it with 55 degrees, just for Saturday's party. rock on mother nature.

so anyway, here's my list:

target- pick up a cute jacket (if it's meant to be mine, they'll have my size), leggings & a few odds & ends (that yo-baby yogurt is so much cheaper at target!)

trader joe's- fruit, fruit & more fruit.  guess what i'm taking tomorrow? that's right... fruit! i'm making a fruit tray, cause you can't just order organic fruit trays.

whole foods? - maybe tomorrow morning though. need meat. in our house.

wrapping gifts for tomorrow's party

another meeting with a university admissions counselor. i'll learn from my last visit & not post the link, as they knew all about my blog when i showed up. i was definitely taken aback by that, so i'd like to not do that again.

wash diapers.

vacuum, laundry, dust, dishes... you know, the same as every day. along with walking the dog, feeding the babe, changing diapers, etc., etc., etc.

chat with a great friend.

hug & kiss my husband & my son. those are always on the list.

...seems like enough, right? i'm sure i'll add plenty more in there, but for now, i'm off to make breakfast & get ahead on those hugs & kisses.

Weekend Smiles

Instead of a long drawn out post on why my weekend rocked, I'll just summarize.

A great friend in town for her Spring Break- she's B's godfather's fiance & we love to see her when she's here (she lives in Arkansas til graduation in May).  We met up in Chicago & went for a bike ride down the Lake Shore bike path.  The Hubs & the Godfather used to go last summer all the time, when we lived in Lincoln Park.  This was my first real ride (excluding a quick spin around the bike shop parking lot) on my new bike!  Here's my new bike, here's B in his trailer, & here's the view at Navy Pier! (disclaimer- all pictures taken from my iPhone)

We did discover that B, like me, is allergic to penicillin, so throughout the weekend we had to keep up with Benadryl & watch his rash.  It didn't stop us from having fun though!  (and yes, he has food in his mouth)

Yesterday was gorgeous, when the sun was out & we did some shopping we needed to do.  We are all in a wedding on May 1st & we needed to get B's tux, the shower gift & my dress for the bachelorette party.  After shopping we took Tucker to the park.   Here's a few pictures from yesterday:

I got these amazing shoes & I can't wait to wear them out with this awesome dress!

A few other honorable mentions...

Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution. Did you watch? I did. And I'm so excited for people in America to start getting IT.

I got a blog review request & if it comes in time, my wedding shower dilemma will be solved!

My shoes for the actual wedding are 'on the truck for delivery'.  If you're my twitter friend, you may have participated in my poll to decide which style to get. I ended up waiting too long & ordered the only pair in my size (hopefully)! I haven't worn exciting shoes for a long time so I'm excited, all though I know I'll be terrified of being a giant in 4 inch heels!

And... because Blogger is sucking it up right now & not uploading half of these pictures... I'll just tell you, rather than show you, that there are 4 large boxes of products for Baby D.  I'm waiting on 2 more packages & then everything will get sent!

Oh! And The Kind Diet is waiting for me at the library!!

It's all Harry Potter's Fault.

I don't often rant on here, or at least I don't think I do.  But today, I'm going to.  Just a brief explanation of my morning, so you can all share in my pain, I guess.

I had a meeting to go to this morning at 9am.  I rarely have meetings, but today I had one.  We all woke up around 8am.  I needed to nurse B, then shower & get ready.  After I nursed B, Hubs headed downstairs only to discover that our lovely dog had thrown up (in multiple spots) on the stairs.  Super.  Oh yeah, & the washing machine repairman was supposed to show up at some point between 8-11am.  Hubs then realized that B had a poopy diaper, at the same time that Tucker wanted to go outside.  I, of course, said I needed to shower & get going as it was already 8:20.  That didn't go over well, but I ran away anyway- something I never do!  Hubs changed B's diaper & went to flush the insert (still using GDiapers at this point- remember no repairman yet).  This is when the toilet overflowed (presumably because those few GDiapers that I've flushed were now clogging up B's toilet) & literally poopy water went everywhere. Sigh.  I'm out of the shower to hear all of this & then, the doorbell rings.  Washer repairman?  Hallelujah!

I get the door- hair wrapped in a towel, B on my hip (at least I had clothes on, right?!)

Never mind the dog vomit on the stairs sir, just step around!  Never mind the poo smell coming from that bathroom right there- it's just the water the Hubs is trying to clean up!

I get to work cleaning the dog vomit & then onto B's breakfast & cleaning the kitchen.  What? I didn't mention that the kitchen was a disaster?  Dinner plates (complete with pancake syrup) from last night were still on the counter, as were the batter bowl & skillet.  Lovely.

At this point it's 8:54 & I still have wet hair.  I call & say I'm not making it.  My house falls apart when I'm supposed to leave.  It really, really does.

On the plus side, everything's cleaned up.  The washer is fixed- 3 loads down, 2 more + cloth diapers to go.  The kitchen is spotless, breakfast & lunch have been served.  B is napping.  And, while the toilet in B's bathroom is not fixed, it's not running poo water everywhere!  And I discovered that you can use the G Diaper Swish Stick to scrape poo into another toilet, since my sprayer is hooked up to the clogged one.

Oh, & B is in his 2nd cloth diaper of the day.  This makes life good!

(And I promise, my kitchen is not usually that gross.  Just today.  It was Harry Potter's fault- he was begging me to watch him last night & he seduced me into forgetting about the dinner mess.)

There you have it.  When your house falls apart, just blame Harry Potter!

Wordless Wednesday

And that is how we spent last weekend- boating and playing in the sand!
(please excuse my pasty whiteness... a baby doesn't allow for much sunbathing time)
